The people has decided on the worst songs / singles of all time

UPDATE 15 March 2011

After 4 years+ it seems the chart has changed a bit.

The worst rated song is Artists for Haiti – We Are the World (2010), with an average rating of 0.73 out of 117 voters. And there’s even a link that says “Buy this release”!

Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for fund-raising for worthy causes: I’m just the messenger here…

Britney’s song, which used to occupy the top (/ bottom, depending on how you look at it) position has now improved to 39th. Yay!

——————————————-

As determined by voters on rateyourmusic.com, the worst single of all time is Britney Spear’s I love rock and roll (2002) at 1.23 out of 5 by 38 voters.

Review comments includes the following:

Stick to the lip-synched presweetened commercial teen sounds. You have no business covering a song laid down by the legendary Joan Jett. J.J. possesses more talent in her little finger than the blonde teen dream bimbo could ever hope to have.

It seems extremely ironic to me that Britney Spears covered a song with the name “I Love Rock and Roll”, yet it seems as though she has done everything possible to destroy what little is left of it.

I KILL ROCK N’ROLL would be a better name for this song.

A close second in the all-time worst singles list is none other than the universally hated Crazy Frog with Axel F (2005) with a 1.10 rating by 50 voters. I suppose although this is rated *worse* than Britney’s single above it did not come last due to its higher number of voters.

Third is Crazy Frog again with its single Popcorn (2005). It received a much worse rating – 0.97 but again, with only 21 votes, was spared the ignominy of being the worst of all time.

Rounding up the bottom ten:

4th: Limp Bizkit- Behind blue eyes (2003)

5th: Weezer – Beverly Hills (2005)

6th: Mary J Blige & U2 – One (2006)

7th: 50 Cent – Candy Shop (2005)

8th: Simple Plan – Welcome to my life (2004)

9th: Pizza Enrico – Mita sina sanoa? (2003)

10th: Britney Spears – Oops!…I did it again (2000)

Honourable (/ dishonourable) mention: James Blunt’s your’re beautiful (2005) came in 11th, Paris Hilton’s Stars are blind (2006) came in 20th, Stevie Wonder’s I just called to say I love you (1984) came in 48th!!!
