Malaysia’s youngest ever Regent is 8 years old

When Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Sultan Mahmud Shah was appointed as Malaysia’s 13th King on 13th December 2006, his second child, Yang di-Pertuan Muda Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, 8, became the country’s youngest ever Regent (acting Sultan).

Sultan Mizan said that this was necessary because he would have to leave Terengganu’s throne temporarily to complete his term as king. A term will last for five years.

Due to Tengku Muhammad Ismail’s age, an advisory board was formed to assist him.
