Siti Suhana has probably the world’s only crystal-producing toe

Update 8th Feb 2007: MStar online, a Malaysian tabloid, published an article on 5th Feb that claims that the crystals are actually formed from her internal fluids that hardened as they interacted with air.

Update: after a few days in observation at a hospital, she did not produce any more crystals. Is this all a hoax?

Local newspapers and TV3 reported on 25th January 2007 that Siti Suhana Saadon, 23 of Alor Gajah, Melaka has the bizarrre ability to secrete colourful, gem-like crystals or stones from her left toenail. And two of those are rather large. They are oval-shaped and hard.

Here is Siti Suhana showing the 2 biggest “gems”: (more…)

The world’s most expensive home to cost RM600 million

I don’t know if palaces are also considered homes, but according to Reuters on 25th January, the world’s most expensive home cost USD155 million. That’s like, the entire yearly budget for infrastructure for Sabah! If certain houses in this state raise eyebrows with their RM8 million price tag, I don’t know what would be raised by the mere mention of this amount. (more…)

Computer games that help you lose weight

Despite being involved fulltime in ICT, I dislike computer games, because to me games are meant to be played “out there”. Having spent a lot of time staring at the computer screen, I can’t bear the thought of spending play time in front of the screen yet again.

But this game from Nintendo caught my eye, because its games make you lose weight via carbo activity. A guy with handle “hey_suburbia” started on Wii Sport in early December 2006 and religiously stuck to his regimen of games. 6 weeks later he had lost 9 pounds – that’s more than 4 kilos.

A compilation of footage he shot throughout the six weeks after the jump: (more…)

The world’s most interesting UNESCO World Heritage Site

As is commonly known, a site has to demonstrate such lofty ideals as “outstanding cultural or natural importance to the common heritage of mankind” to qualify for UNESCO’s hallowed list. That list includes such luminaries as The Persepolis, Memphis and its Necropolis, the Historic centre of St Petersburg and last but not least, Malaysia’s very own Kinabalu Park.

However, possibly no other World Heritage Site is as interesting as the Khajuraho group of monuments, in northern India. (more…)

The world’s most embarrassing web moments

The internet, and particularly the web is probably the most efficient information distribution system ever invented. Therefore, if you embarrass yourself on the web, its impact is worse than doing it on even say, CNN. This is because what you did or said is going to be replayed, remixed, reinvented, critiqued et cetera over and over again for goodness knows how long.

According to PC World, the most embarrassing web moment belongs to Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer: (more…)

Sabahans are the world’s most inventive name-makers

I saw these list of names for 1st graders at a certain school in Penampang area. Judging from the names, assuming they are correctly spelt, we Sabahan parents must be the world’s most creative name-makers. We can think of names for our children that other people in any other part of the world will never ever be able to do.

One thing I can guarantee though: these kids will have a hard time on the phone in future. Everytime they have to give their name over the phone, they will have to spell it out!

Probably the world’s most married man

The New Straits Times on 4th January 2007 reported that former police officer Kamarudin Mohamad made headlines in 2004 for being Malaysia’s most married man: 53 times.

The picture above was during his 53rd and last marriage, which was when he remarried his first wife, Khadijah Udin whom he divorced almost 50 years before after having married her for only a year.

It could also be the world’s oldest newlyweds, for Kamarudin was 72 and Khadijah 74 on that auspicious day, for a combined age of 146.

He was a self-confessed “lover of beautiful women” but “never a playboy”.

His wives included an English woman and two Thais.

All his previous marriages ended in divorce, with the exception of a Thai who died of breast cancer.

He leaves behind eight children and 16 grandchildren.

He will not add to the tally for he died on Saturday aged 74.

His 53rd and last wife, Khadijah Udin, said her husband had been warded on Dec 13 after complaining of chest and lung pains. Khadijah, who had divorced Kamarudin in 1958 after their first marriage, said Kamarudin died peacefully.

What is more amazing is that Kamarudin was never married to more than one woman at any one time.

Khadijah only agreed to remarry him after he agreed to give up his “hobby” of remarrying repeatedly. During their marriage in 2004, the groom had said he was happy with his choice and was quoted to have said:(My daughter) was right when she said I had never forgotten my first wife after all these years. I am pleased to be united with Khadijah again.”

Other trivia:

  • His previous marriages lasted an average 193 days each.
  • He was married to his 51st wife for 20 years. She died before he considered remarrying Khadijah.
  • His briefest marriage lasted only 2 days.

Rest in peace.

The world’s greatest genius is not who you’d expect

Update 18th Feb 2007: There’s another contender for this title. According to the AP, James Pacenza, 58 an employee with IBM was fired for visiting an adult chat room at work. However, amazingly he is suing his boss for USD5 million because “he is an Internet addict who deserves treatment and sympathy rather than dismissal.” Further: “…he visits chat rooms to treat traumatic stress incurred in 1969 when he saw his best friend killed during an Army patrol in Vietnam. The stress caused him to become a sex addict, and with the development of the Internet, an Internet addict.” He claimed protection under the American with Disabilities Act.

Now, can we all use this kind of excuse in this country?
————————————————

Rather than people like Einstein, Galileo or Newton, the title of the world’s greatest genius should belong to Stephen Tame, 29 of Suffolk, United Kingdom.

Who?

Reuters on 19th December 2006 reported that this guy who is a devout Christian was awarded more than 3 million pounds in damages at London’s High Court.

For what?

He successfully argued in court that an accident at work boosted his libido and wrecked his marriage as he turned to prostitutes and pornography. Apparently, he suffered severe head injuries in a fall, transforming him from a loyal newlywed (he had been married 8 months before his accident) into a raving womaniser who had two affairs.

He was in a coma for two months after falling from a gantry while working at a bicycle warehouse shortly after his marriage in January 2002. Doctors said it was a miracle he survived.

His former employer, Professional Cycle Marketing, of Essex, failed to argue through their lawyers that his injuries were not as bad as suggested in court.
