The world’s most disappointing blind date

Inquirer.net reported on 5th January 2007 that a 17-year old boy in northeastern China suffered perhaps the world’s most disappointing blind date experience.

He was very disappointed with how a woman he met over the Internet actually looked when they finally met in person.

So disappointed indeed that he killed himself.

The teen first met the woman – known by her chat handle “Qunjiaofeiyang”, meaning “Flying Skirt” – using QQ, a popular Chinese online messaging application.

The girl apparently deceived him by describing herself as a beautiful 19 year old.

They pair chatted online for weeks before arranging a meeting on 26th December.

Imagine the sound of his heart sinking when he arrived full of expectation, only to discover the woman to be much less attractive than she described and actually ten years older than him!

Without even saying goodbye, the boy made a U turn, lost all interest in food and 4 days later hanged himself.

With that, I can only conclude that she must have looked either like the infamous Julia Pastrana (1834-1860):

or Mary Ann Bevan (1874-1933):

Both women were accorded the title “Ugliest Woman in the World” in their time.
